Lifeboat Media - what's in a name?
Lifeboat Media's mission is to help people of all ages
preserve the artifacts of their memory - photography, music, and film - in
an accessible, all-digital format that can be enjoyed for generations to
come. There are three things that fuel Lifeboat Media's passion. The first
is a love of film and music of all types, new and old. The second is a
fascination with nostalgia, and the third is a dedication to the
preservation of history. We feel that the name "Lifeboat," in its own unique
way, pefectly encapsulates all of these ideas.
In 1944, Alfred Hitchcock directed "Lifeboat," a film adaptation of
the novella of the same name written by John Steinbeck. The movie starred
Tallulah Bankhead and Canada Lee. More than 50 years later, songwriter
Gordon Downie penned "The Dire Wolf," in which he discusses Bankhead, Lee,
and their roles in the tale of maritime woe. To us, "Lifeboat" symbolizes
the convergence of these three artistic legends. Hitchcock and Steinbeck
represented the finest in the worlds of film and literature during
the WWII era, and Downie continues to excite and inspire writers and fans
the world over with his vivid, prolific songwriting. Between these three
men, the chasm between past and present is bridged - which, in essence, is
the goal of Lifeboat Media.
"The beauty of our memories is like the romance of the sea -
fleeting, but ultimately, unwavering."
